Android phone keeps overheating

Phones can warm during charging, gaming, navigation, updates, or video. A temperature warning, repeated shutdown, swelling, or heat that is painful to touch needs more caution.

Before you start

Note what the phone was doing when it became hot and whether it was charging. Save work if the screen still responds.

Try these steps in order

Test after each step. If the problem is resolved, you can stop.

  1. Stop the demanding activity

    Close navigation, games, camera recording, or other heavy tasks. Move the phone out of direct sunlight and remove an insulating case if it is safe to do so.

  2. Disconnect charging
