Gaming troubleshooting

PlayStation will not connect online

Distinguish a failed home connection from a PlayStation service or game-specific issue. Avoid changing advanced settings until you know which part is failing.

PS5 and PS4 • home internet connectionUpdated

Before you start

Have your Wi‑Fi password available. Note any error code exactly as shown.

Try these steps in order

Test after each step. If the problem is resolved, you can stop.

  1. Check the home connection

Use another device on the same Wi‑Fi. If it also fails, troubleshoot the network first.

  2. Check PlayStation service status

Open the official status page linked below. If a service has an incident, wait for recovery rather than resetting the console.

  3. Review PS5 setup

Use Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection. Select your home network and carefully enter the password.

  4. Review PS4 setup

Use Settings → Network → Set Up Internet Connection → Use Wi‑Fi → Easy. Select your network, then run the offered connection test.

  5. Compare a wired connection

If practical, test a LAN cable through the console’s network setup. Avoid custom DNS or IP changes without the network owner’s help.
