Before you start
Have the PS5 and the USB cable supplied with the controller available. Some cables provide power without carrying pairing data.
Try these steps in order
Test after each step. If the problem is resolved, you can stop.
Charge the controller
Connect it to the PS5 with a compatible USB data cable and allow it to charge before testing.
Pair by cable
Turn on the PS5, connect the controller directly, and press the PS button. Avoid a hub for this test.
Try another data cable or USB port
Change one item at a time. A cable that charges a phone may still lack the data connection needed for pairing.
Reset the controller
Turn off the PS5. Press and hold the small reset button on the back of the controller for at least five seconds, following PlayStation’s diagram.
Reconnect and update
Connect by USB again, press the PS button, and install any offered PS5 system or controller software update.
What your result may mean
- A different cable works
- The original cable did not provide a reliable data connection.
- It connects by USB only
- Wireless pairing or controller software needs further support.
- Another controller connects normally
- Focus service on the affected DualSense controller.
