TVs troubleshooting

TV says no signal

“No signal” usually belongs to the selected input. First see whether the TV’s own Home menu appears; that is a different clue from a completely blank screen.

TVs using HDMI • consoles, cable boxes, and streaming playersUpdated

Before you start

Identify the device and HDMI port in use. Find the TV manual for its model-specific input names.

Try these steps in order

Test after each step. If the problem is resolved, you can stop.

  1. Select the matching input

Use Input or Source and match the HDMI number printed beside the connected cable.

  2. Check the external device

Confirm the console, cable box, or streamer is powered on rather than asleep.

  3. Reconnect safely

With equipment powered off, reseat both accessible HDMI ends. Do not force a tight or damaged connector.

  4. Change one part at a time

Try another available HDMI port, then a known-working compatible cable. Select the new input when changing ports.

  5. Separate the device from the TV

If available, test another device on the same TV input. Use manufacturer support for resolution or compatibility changes.

What your result may mean

TV menus work but one device does not
Focus on that device, its cable, and input settings.
Only one port fails
Use an undamaged working port and request TV service advice.
TV menus never appear
Ask the TV maker for display or power troubleshooting.

Still not working?

These are general external-connection checks, not a model-specific repair procedure. Use the TV manufacturer’s support to locate its manual before trying resets.
